Chef Ezra Lewis, a culinary virtuoso hailing from the island of Trinidad and Tobago, embarked on his culinary journey at a tender age under the tutelage of his grandmother at his family home. His passion for cooking was ignited early on, setting him on a path towards culinary excellence. Upon relocating to the United States in his mid-teens, Ezra pursued formal culinary education at Johnson & Wales University, a renowned institution where he refined his skills and delved deep into the art of cooking.
Ezra's insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to diverse culinary experiences, from prestigious internships at Augusta National and Foxwoods Resort and Casino to working alongside celebrity chef Tom Colicchio. Under Colicchio's mentorship, Ezra honed his expertise in classical French and Italian cuisine, butchery, sauce making, patisserie, and bread baking, laying a solid foundation for his future endeavors.
Venturing into the world of luxury dining, Ezra's culinary prowess took him across the globe, from serving as a yacht chef for elite clientele to catering for renowned personalities like Drake, Alicia Keys, and Tom Brady. His culinary odyssey extended to countries like Spain, France, Germany, Israel and the Mediterranean countries enriching his culinary repertoire and broadening his culinary horizons.
In 2015, Ezra made his mark in the culinary capital of the world, New York City, where he garnered acclaim for his innovative approach to cuisine at Wallflower in the West Village. Subsequent ventures at the Freehand Hotel's Studio and George Washington Bar further solidified his reputation as a rising star in the culinary scene, earning him accolades such as the "30 under 30 Rising Stars" mention, Food & Wine NY and the prestigious NY Times for his culinary accomplishments.
In 2020, Ezra embraced a new challenge as the Culinary Director/Executive Chef for Collective Retreats, crafting high-end outdoor culinary experiences that captivated guests from Texas to Colorado to New York. From elaborate five-course dinners under the stars to rustic barbecue and wood fire cooking, Ezra's culinary artistry knows no bounds.
